Aloha Tom,
A good place to get any inspiration, is from the origin of our tiki obsessions. Copies of copies only end in bad copies, but if you get your inspiration from the original polynesian or pacific source, you'll end up with a better, more original result.

So, for designs, I'd pick a few simple designs from Tapa cloth:

Below is my version of tapa based on the original

There are a few tikis that are popular to remake.

  1. Marquesas Islands Tiki
    And here is a Marquesan Tiki Design based on the designs from Fatu Hiva aka Marquesas Islands

  2. Tangaroa from the Cook Islands

  3. Moai from Easter Island
    4.Papua New Guinnea Shields

Do a google image search for any of these and you'll find ample inspiration!

Good Luck, and try not to copy any artist still living, but if you do, just reference who they are if you post pictures!
