Our backyard is a mess in the winter, cold with bare trees and leaves everywhere. Normally I'll drain the pond and keep it empty most of the winter to make things easy. Sometimes I'll fill it if we have a stretch of nice weather and we want to be outside. It makes a nice decorative feature even if it's too cold to jump in. Although I have a crazy friend that went into it last January freeezing cold! Anyway, it's small enough that I can drain it with the pump in a few hours if I want to.
