It's a difficult ballroom style from days gone by and that is why they had to hold auditions - the actor extras they hired couldn't learn it. The man still leads - but it's exactly opposite of how we all learned to "waltz". it feels all backwards, but once you are in the 'swing' of things in the grand circle on the floor it's very heady and makes you dizzy. apparantly this style (along with the corsets and tight shoes) is part of the cause for why women fainted alot at dances. the best part of the audition was seing the gettups that people came in. there were some hardcore goth/HM fans in the mix. i got to try out with a guy in a tuxedo who plays nijinsky on stage.
