La Verandah has tentatively fiddled with a violin as a child, awkwardly strummed a guitar in college, and barely managed to get a few tunes out of a bowl back mandolin before losing hope of ever gaining any real competence on it. With a birthday looming, decided to make one more effort to find a string instrument that I could learn to play easily and actually enjoy the sound of my own playing. After some homework, decided to buy a soprano Flea ukulele from the Tiki King himself, so I could get one with his tiki Barkcloth design on the face. He agreed to sign it for me in exchange for a signed copy of "Weird Colorado" and it arrived a couple days ago. I have been happily strumming on it ever since! It fits my undersized hands perfectly, sounds great and weighs nearly nuthin'! And it's purty -- not having a photo of it yet, here's a link to the Tiki King site with a photo of a Flea with the same design, second from the left: http://www.tikiking.com/shopping_cart2/pagesix.html La Verandah is simply kvelling, and had to share... A little bad taste is like a nice dash of paprika. [ Edited by: Carmine Verandah 2010-10-16 16:40 ] |
