I have always wondered if there was any significance to the traditional garnishes found in Trader Vic's Mai Tai, besides the fact that they add flavor to the drink and look cool. I came across this explanation, so I wanted to share it. The 1/2 squeezed lime shell represents a tropical island. The pineapple spear or chunk with a cheery represents the sunset. And the spring of mint, (which should always be slapped in your hand once or twice to bring out the juices), represents a palm tree. "Mai Tai-Roe Ae"!
