I'm off the reservation today so I can do an update. Thanks for checkin in all!
Mojave Oasis will still be there waiting for you to come visit it when you can. In fact, it's still being worked on, so it will be even better than it is now!
Congrats Freddie! (To improve worker morale while MO was being built up, I offered up $5 to the first person to use the that's waht she said joke each day at work.)
I carve as much time as I can possibly manage each and every day.
No. I really just started doing my thing out there. I just signed on to stay out there for a while longer.
Thanks Benz! We're making history happen out there.
Wow! I'm glad that you caught that. And yes, the idea was the juxtaposition of modern and traditional for the two pieces. I didn't come up with the holding up the house of tiki part with them, but I like that idea so much that I'll go ahead and run with that part now too. Originally it was casting a wider net of audience acceptance by including both styles. But the holding up the house sounds more profound than I just wanted more people to like the finished products.
The tikis are actually holding up the whole stage, if you can believe that!
The only down side of having one of those in your yard is that me and Bamboo Ben would be living at your house while it was being made. And believe me, we both have a bunch of lifestyle quirks that sometimes do not merge with regular home life that well. The price of paradise....
Just make sure you look me up before you start writing the "Behind The Scenes making of Mojave Oasis" book
Thanks DC. For the rest of you:Here's the fallen tree he's writing of: Here it is topped off just prior to carving: Now carved: It was tough to get a Moai out of it for a couple reasons: First, the tree was leaning the wrong way, and second, it was still alive, so I kept the carve shallow, hoping the tree would survive the trauma. In this shot, you can see the forward lean of the stump as well as some new branch growth on the back of the stump that came out since I carved it:
More tikis. For instance, I do not think this area is "tiki" enough yet: I'm also working as the Mojave's version of Magnum PI. I recently solved the case of the "Cold Can of Coors Light", as well as the case of the "Switched Jet Ski parking spots," and am really proud of the work I just did to wrap up the "Case of Secret Water Shut Off Valve." I sure there will be plenty more mystries to solve in the coming days as well.
It sure is.
thanks seeks! It took a lot of work to make all that fun happen. More work and more fun ahead! Here are some other things I don't think I posted yet: First warm up tiki I carved out there: I decorated some trashcans with some stencil art: I woke up one morning and this was deposited in my work area: Here are some pics of the Lono before it was staged: I finally sanded and stained this guy: I also got the finish done on the drum, as well as the head: And that gets me pretty close to being caught up. If before my next update you have a mystery to solve, please call me, the Mojave Magnum. |
