Tiki Central / Tiki Drinks and Food / what is meant by "west indies" rum in drink recipes?

I've seen this listed in recipes for a Puka Punch, for a Moonkist Coconut, and seems like one or two other drinks i can't recall.

does it mean wildcard/mixer's choice?

does it mean anything from the caribbean islands aside from Puerto Rico, Jamaica, or Martinique (as those rums are usually specified by geographic origin in recipes)?

is it code for gold rum?

for Cuban, or for Barbados rums perhaps?

any consensus out there?
