I had a window like that - it was letting in too much light, so here's what I did:

The image is printed on photographic paper, which only lets in a low level of light during the day. It was backed onto a a piece of clear rigid plastic jammed into the window frame to protect the paper from condensation on the window pane, which has worked really well. Then I nailed in some small bamboo around the edges to hold it all in place and to stop light getting in around the edges of the picture. I didn't use any glue and the paper is attached to the plastic only with Scotch tape. That way I can replace it easily if I decide I want to put another pic in there.
