And speaking as a software person, I often tell people that yes, FB is programmed by monkeys. Their problem is that development is driven by the marketing department. Marketing comes up with a way to make money and then they tell the engineers to do it. As opposed to someone like Google, who has engineers come up with cool stuff and then they let the marketing department figure out how to "monetize" it.

But that being said, Facebook, like TikiCentral, is a tool, an imperfect tool. So you need to learn the strengths of FB and maximize them while minimizing the weaknesses. I've been able to get more people into "the scene" with FB by just saying "Look up Brevard Tiki on Facebook" than I ever got referring people to TikiCentral.
