When staying in Papeete, I can really recommend Le Royal Tahitian (see Letterhead in your "stationairy" link). It is in it's original 60s condition, but clean, with lovely grounds, comfortably small (by today's standards). The pool bar and main bar carvings are done by Marquesans. The restaurant has little bamboo model huts that are lit from the inside. A time warp the way we like it.
Built and owned by an American Polynesiac who now lives in the valley....
