I can vouch for the Amigo Room at King's Highway. A true John-O dive bar that makes excellent drinks. By the way, the Parker is way mid-century cool and worth it.

I do like Lyon's quite a bit and it would probably work out as a great place to have dinner as well, plus it keeps us in Palm Springs proper.
