Real Life Spies

It was exactly Ogilvy’s mid-century consumer manipulation technologies that were later so mind-bogglingly satirized in the uber-psychedelic The Prisoner TV show, itself originally suggested by the real camp established in Scotland for WW2 spies who knew too much about the details of the D-Day invasion to be allowed their freedom.

For a slightly fictionalized version of the real events, read The Cooler, George Markstein’s mystery spy thriller. Markstein, co-creator and primary writing force behind The Prisoner, was a military reporter who found out about Britain’s most secret camp at a cocktail party...

then wrote about how a futuristic society could use advanced surveillance technologies to control their people's every move...
