For your talk, if you have the ability to use powerpoint, I think an obvious thing would be some scans from both of Sven's books, explaining what you just encapsulated in your last post and maybe further extrapolating the whole history background that Sven talks about with the GI's coming back from WWII and wanting to recreate that ideal of Hawaiian paradise. It may seem old hat to us, but you would be surprised how few people actually know much of the background to to tiki culture. Pictures of your own work set to some nice thematic music like Tikiyaki Orchestra etc towards the end as a pastiche would be a nice capper. Then after they have that nice relaxing look at your work you can open it up to questions.:wink: Also if you bring freebees, make sure there are more than you need. Once people see your work you are liable to have people wanting to take home pieces for friends and family. And LOTS of business cards. :) |
