They actually are legal to own in the United States,but many of them are in museums.The law states that it is not legal to deal in living organs and tissue.The shrunken head falls into the artifact category,so it is a grey area.This one came back from South America in the 50's from a service member.It was then given as a gift about 10 years ago to the person that I acquired it from.When closely inspected,you can see eyelashes,whiskers above the lips,hairs in the nostrils and other fine details.

i'm thinking this is the head of a chimp or monkey... not buying the human head theory.
