You read about it, you heard about it, but never in your wildest dreams did you believe
it to be true. But there it will be in just three days, staring you square in the eye.
Yes, the infamous Cactus Cocktail is about to be unleashed this Saturday.

The kinks have been worked out, the problems corrected; this beverage with almost
certainty (58.3%) will not produce a rash or allergic reaction. In fact, the aloe content
alone will sooth any rash that it creates.

This alcoholic concoction was originally created by Doc Wetzel in nearby Calico during
the silver rush of the 1880’s as a salve for mineshaft flash burn.

(Old Doc Wetzel circa 1885)

The miners soon found out that Doc Wetzel’s salve had a very high alcohol content as the
prospectors ignored the warning label that indicated that it was not to be taken internally.
This was an understandable mistake since most miners were illiterate. It was not long before
Doc Wetzel’s remedy found its way as a staple drink in the town’s saloon.

The beverage was not without side effects. While it did have many medicinal qualities,
the drink also acted as an aphrodisiac. In retrospect it could be labeled as Prospector’s Viagra.
It was very obvious of who were inebriated with the drink as they were “sporting cactus”.

This was not a problem except for the fact that there were very few women in this old boom town.
Needless to say, Kactus Kate, the town’s lone woman of ill repute became the wealthiest
citizen of old Calico.

(Soiled Dove Kactus Kate)

Katus Kate kept a room on the top floor of Hanks Hotel

Heirs of Kactus Kate eventually parlayed her fortune into opening a casino with her
namesake near Stateline Nevada.

The Cactus Cocktail, available only this Saturday at the Tiki Cactus Garden
during the tent & trailer crawl at Mojave Oasis.

The Tiki Cactus Garden will also have Cactus Nectar shots available upon request as well as
Catus Spit which is a non-alcholic drink for any underage crawlers.
