For my recent 50th bday (April 2) we took a train trip through the Northwest, to Portland and then Seattle, from the Bay Area, which is a haven for tiki fans. It was my first time to either city. We plan to relocate next year to Seattle, though it has a limited tiki scene, as far as we knew - HULA HULA in the Queen Anne neighborhood http://www.hulahula.org/huluhulusite/index.html, where picture taking/sharing was frowned upon due to fears of "competition" (?), and RUMBA on Capitol Hill, which isn't a tiki bar per se, but has a weekly tiki theme night and great tiki-type cocktails http://rumbaonpike.com/.

Portland, though was a major tiki hub. Below are pix from three places well worth checking out for traveling tikiphiles:

HALE PELE (formerly Thatch) - new and hip but classically styled, great decor and drinks.

THE ALIBI - old school cool, excellent atmosphere, clueless crowds, so-so drinks

TRADER VIC'S
The absolute best one I've been to outside of Emeryville, in terms of cocktails, decor, food, music, atmosphere, everything.
