The thing about float lights outdoors is the rope will rot.
If you put a rope outside in the weather it's going to rot, how
soon, may take years or many years.
Thick rope of course will last longer.
But if the thing is not tied with nylon rope then it's not
a great idea to put them outside.
I tell people not to put my floats outside for this reason,
otherwise my floats are just as well suited for outdoors as other float lights
you have seen.

Yes and they had a guy who's job it was to fix things like that
when they break.
And when they broke they tossed the light in the trash and got a new one.
I would bet more times than not they said "f@#! that, that light is a pain in
the butt" and left it out.

But.. the canopy over the top of the globe would help keep rain and bugs out.
Well a bugs a bug and some will get in.
Then again the restaurants had that guy and he would clean out the bugs too.
Why fight it?
Put your lights under an overhang and bring them in when winter hits.
