Started mine last night finally. I broke out my new dremel tool I bought some time ago for the studio for an idea that didn't pan out. I decided to try my hand at carving bamboo, though I really have carved very little of...anything ever. Holding a dremel tool is really hard to get used to, and learning to go with the grain even harder.

First I sketched out my shrunken head on the bamboo

Then I started carving switching off between two different bits. I really needed a third smaller one for details but had to work with what I had.

Then I tried to get as deep as I could without penetrating completely through the bamboo.

The plan was after it was carved properly that I would woodburn the details into it, but I could not find my good woodburner and had to settle for a pretty lousy one I got from a toy hobby kit when I was a kid.

I really should have stopped there, but I was really not confident in how it was looking especially my carving so I decided to add an element I was more familiar with... paint. I think I really screwed it up at this point.

Disappointed with the outcome so far, but maybe it will still work out in the end after I add the other details.
