I'm not much of a "Bon Vivant", but this weekend I went to this craft cocktail joint on the northside of Chicago that isn't Tiki at all(it has more of a Victorian slant) but their Tiki drinks are awesome, for anyone interested. Right now they're featuring a drink that's a nod to Beachbum Berry called a "Sippin Safari" which features an excellent pairing of Blackstrap Rum and Chocolate Bitters, along with Lemon Hart 151, sherry, falernum, cinnamon and rasberry syrups, and lime juice. Also had their stock Zombie, which is probably the most faithful tasting version that I've had out in the field.Didn't have their Mai Tai, though I'd suspect it'd be just as accurate. My hope is that the cocktail goodness will somehow rub off onto the way cool, but somewhat drink-quality-deficient Tiki joints around town.
