I'm quite excited about this find! It belonged the sellers 'well travelled' father in law. He didn't know if his father in law had ever been to New Zealand & estimated it might be from the 60s or 70s ~ details were vague. I gave it a quick clean when I got home: It's about 3ft tall & about 8" across. The head features most of the carving detail & smoothest finish. The eyes are 1 1/4" wide, in low level 'mood lighting' the turquoise shows most. The legs have less carving detail & are less smoothly finished. Its definitely a 'forward facing carving' (ie. the back & sides are plain). The back did have a home made metal bracket which I have removed & will replace with something more subtle if I wish to secure it. First big tiki carving = :) :) :) [ Edited by: AdOrAdam 2013-09-23 15:14 ] |
