The Early spanish skippers use to Load stones onto their ships to serve as ballast for the return trip home. Was a whaling station before the Pt. Loma lighthouse was built there. No, I was not around then. I just learned about the “Point” this afternoon while visiting the former Naval Training Station (now called Liberty Station) and really quite worth a visit. Cheers
