I loved my bus that I had in high school. Used to be able to slide my huge bass amp right in. The shifter was squirley as all hell, and anyone driving it would grind the gears all the time. Reading the article, I now realize why it was so slow going up hills...78 horsepower! I can sneeze with more force! One time, I hear all these cars honking behind me so I pull over. That's when I noticed the entire back half of the bus was engulfed in flames! Luckily, someone had a fire extinguisher, and after spraying it...the damn thing started right back up and I was able to continue driving! Oh, and my "first time" (and second time) was in that bus... :) RIP VW Bus!
