The civic historic site designation is of HUGE benefit to the future of the Mai Kai, even more so than state or national designation. In short, their ordinances now prevent the inappropriate alteration or, worse, demolition of the site without review by the historic review committee. Kudos to the current owners for doing this and helping to ensure the legacy of the Mai Kai for future generations. GK |
