I don't know the guy well enough to throw out there that "if he ever got tired of it it would have a good home with me", and with the tone he used when he told me about it, there is obviously some sentimental value there. The next best thing I can do is subtly impress upon him the treasure he has so that maybe he moves it to a safer spot at least.
