I agree, this is a disappointing outcome. But, in the end, it sounds like Rufus gets to stay in his home, and hopefully he'll be pleasing visitors and enjoying life for years to come. Remember that Rufus's well-being was always the goal, and there was always a risk he'd die in a move—it certainly would have been very stressful to the poor guy.
