Wow, that's horrible... In addition to not leaving them unattended, it's wise to keep at least one fire extinguisher nearby anytime you may be burning torches or a fire pit. I love Tiki, but things like this scare the hell out of me. I had my house catch fire years ago (not from a Tiki torch though). It's an awful thing to experience. Between that and the documentary about the Cocoanut Grove fire that I watched as a child, I'm probably a little hyper cautious...
