Food historian Charles Perry will be giving a talk on "Tiki Cuisine's Day in the Sun," about the history of the tiki movement, at the San Pedro Library this Sunday. It covers such topics as the image of the South Seas islands in the early 20th century and how it changed thanks to books, plays, and music from Hawaii, and how backyard luaus became hip in the 1950's. Admission is free, all welcome. The address is 931 South Gaffey Street, start time is 2 PM. |
