Lots of news to report this week:

The top story is the latest on The Hukilau, including the new website and tickets now on sale for the Tiki Tower Takeover and cruise with Dawn Wells of ‘Gilligan’s Island.'

The Tiki Tower Takeover features four of the country’s top barmen – Jeff Beachbum Berry (Latitude 29, New Orleans), Martin Cate (Smuggler’s Cove, San Francisco), Paul McGee (Lost Lake, Chicago) and Brian Miller (Tiki Mondays with Miller, New York City) – as they each serve up a cocktail in the revolving Pier Top Lounge on the 17th floor of the Pier 66 hotel on the Fort Lauderdale’s Intracoastal Waterway on Thursday, June 11.

And just announced: The Hukilau will welcome actress Dawn Wells from Gilligan’s Island for a “Three Hour Tour” Cruise on Fort Lauderdale’s inland waterways. Limited to 300 people, the cruise aboard a yacht will include open bar, food, Tiki tunes and more. The event is set for Friday, June 12.

The Hukilau’s new website is now live with complete coverage of the event: http://thehukilau.com

Around the rest of the Tiki world:

  • We have lots of details on Modernism Week, as it celebrates 10 years in Palm Springs. The highlight may be a release party for a new Shag print featuring music by The Martini Kings on Friday (Feb. 13).

  • In news from last week, Disney gave us a sneak preview of the drink menu at the upcoming Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. There will be at least five new drinks plus more than three others coming over from the Trader Sam’s menu at Disneyland.

  • In news from the West Coast, we report on the theft of a Fijian war club at Smuggler’s Cove in San Francisco, and the upcoming closing of the Conga Lounge in Oakland.

We also posted a whole lot of links from last week, including video and photos, a story on Montana's Sip 'n Dip Lounge, a bunch of rum links, and more.

In this week's spotlights, we feature:
ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Shag
WEBSITE OF THE WEEK: Zen Tiki Lounge
BAND/MUSIC OF THE WEEK: The Crazed Mugs
TIKI BAR OF THE WEEK: Trader Vic’s, New York City

Coming next week, coverage of the upcoming "Art of Tiki: A Cocktail Showdown" at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (featuring Emeril Lagasse, Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, Martin Cate, and many others) on Feb. 20, plus the Lost Cocktails of The Mai Kai event on Feb. 21.

Also, hot off the presses, we just found out that The Mai-Kai has been named to the National Register of Historic Places:
