Thanks, Luna, I haven't been to Cole's in 20 years, honestly don't remember much of the interior. I had a friend with a shop across the street in the old Santa Fe building where they have real old-school brass elevators with lever controls and the "dials" above the doors, just like in the old movies. Cole's is on the edge of the garment district, and right next door to the jewelry district. Truly a fun part of town. Thanks to you I'm adding it to my "must do" list the next time I am out there. Wow, 1908...
Varnish, the back room speakeasy in Coles was originally, L.A. gangster Mickey Cohen's base of operations during his reign
in old L.A. oh man the history!
Coles has been renovated since you where last there, but they kept all the old booths & dark wood interior
still filled with vintage art & photos etc.
Coles turns up in many TV shows needing a period look, Madmen etc.
The area is now Hipster central, but if you go early you escape the crowd, food & drinks are great (Old Fashions in particular!)
