Last week I experimented with a log that had been down in my yard for a year but left uncovered. It was soaked with rain water but it carves beautifully, reminding me of palm. I know it will crack as it dries, we will see where and how bad. Also did some work on this heavy, splintery, hard piece of purple heart. I might as well be trying to carve a Fort Knox vault door, it scoffs at any tool I try and throw at it. If it were not so beautifully purple all the way through it would be in the wood stove.
