Thanks, nui umi umi and swizzle. I was looking at the sign as a whole and not just the name alone at night, so my thought of brightening the moai was to ensure equal prominence of the moai if the neon was overwhelming.

I've only seen the sign in photos, and not first-hand yet, so my comment might have been all wet... It sure does look good though!

I wish I had the time to personally work on signs and stuff like this. It certainly is an art. It's not just neon -- it's overall design and "balance" - proportioning, font choices, color choices, and much much more. We could use more classic tiki neon art. I'm looking forward to seeing more posts in this thread.
