Couple other thoughts: Watch for the changes imparted by the Smith & Cross flavor, you'll notice a different Mai Tai with that S+C pot still funkiness. Myers's will also change the flavor, just try different rums and see what discover and what you like. The VSOP is mid-grade, and you can step down to try any number of still fine VS's. (XO is the top of the line grade.) You're following in the footsteps of many of us here. I also can't bear to buy a cheap cocktail ever again, especially when it costs you WAY less to make a good cocktail in your own bar. I have a short list of "safe" drinks I order when I'm in a mediocre public establishment. Cheers!
