but yes- you can use a white english-style rum, be it el dorado or appleton estate, in any white rum cocktail for a flavor profile that will differ as you might expect from the spanish rum taste. my secret- i find it works particularly well as a substitute for dark rum in a dark and stormy, i call that a "Sunshower." works well in a cuba libre and in bajan punch too.
