I asked the recipient to take a lot of pictures showing the box, packing, and contents, and filed a claim with the USPS since I had sent it priority mail which includes $50 insurance (mug sold for $30). I wasn't expecting anything, as I'd read that they had a history of never paying out. Imagine my surprise when a check for the full amount showed up in the email less than a week later! I had packed it with plenty of bubble wrap and packing peanuts, and apparently that was enough for the USPS to consider it well packed. Who'd a thunk?
