Indigenous people often create create art from everyday items they have on hand. Since sheep are plentiful in New Zealand, it only seems fitting that the Maori might decorate a sheep skull.

I like this technique for hollow items like a skull. Basic shape is formed from Styrofoam, paper clay is rolled out and covers the foam, details are added.
