Radio Fairfax also can be heard on Tune In Radio at tunein.com, and streamed on smartphones by downloading the Tunein app. It also can be streamed on Roku and Google TV at: http://tinyurl.com/3uqfsz9 “I Love Paris,” the Cole Porter classic, sizzlingly sung by Karrin Allyson on her 22-year-old CD: Sweet Home Cookin’ with arranger Alan Broadbent on Piano, Bob Cooper on Tenor Sax, Danny Embrey on Guitar, Randy Sandke on Trumpet, Putter Smith on Bass and Sherman Ferguson on Drums. “Summertime,” the classic by George Gershwin and DuBose Heyward from the 1935 Broadway Musical: Porgy & Bess, performed by the jazz guitarist Barney Kessel and drawn from the copious compilation: The Leopard Lounge. “Once Upon a Summertime” by Johnny Mercer, Eddie Barclay and Michel Legrand, sung in 1967 by Astrud Gilberto with the orchestra arranged and conducted by Gil Evans, from her colorful compact disc: Look to the Rainbow. “August Moon” was composed and played on Alto Sax by Benny Carter on his 1958 calendarical LP: Aspects, with Conrad Gozzo, Shorty Sherock, Pete Candoli and Uan Rasey on Trumpets; Tommy Pederson, George Roberts and Herbie Harper on Trombones; Buddy Collette, Bill Green, Justin Gordon and Chuck Gentry on Saxes; Larry Bunker on Vibes and Percussion; Arnold Ross on Piano; Bobby Gibbons on Electric Guitar; Joe Comfort on Bass and Shelly Manne on Drums. “No Moon at All” was inked by Dave Mann and Redd Evans and sung by Lucy Reed for her 1957 introductory effort: This Is Lucy Reed, ably accompanied by the album’s arranger Gil Evans on Piano Jimmy Cleveland on Trombone, Art Farmer on Trumpet, Milt Hinton on Bass and George Russell on Drums. And “The Lady’s in Love With You” was composed by Frank Loesser for the 1959 appropriatatively entitled movie: Some Like It Hot, sung by Mel Torme on his 1962 lubricious LP: Comin' Home Baby, with the Shorty Rogers Orchestra. The Fats Waller and Andy Razaf standard “Honeysuckle Rose,” performed by the South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim on his lapidarial LP: Reflections, recorded in London in 1965 and released under his original name of Dollar Brand. “Speak Low,” written by Kurt Weill and Ogden Nash for the 1943 Broadway musical: One Touch of Venus came from the 1966 outstanding effort: Sammy Davis Jr. Sings and Laurindo Almeida Plays, featuring as Davis’s only accompaniment the Brazilian guitar master Laurindo Almeida. “Summertime in Venice” was composed by Alessandro Cicognini and Carl Sigman for the 1955 David Lean Movie: Summertime, which starred Katharine Hepburn, Rossano Brazzi and Darren McGavin, and this version was sung by Buddy Greco on his 1964 LP: My Last Night in Rome, arranged and conducted by Marty Manning. “It's a Most Unusual Day” was written by Jimmy McHugh and Harold Adamson for the 1948 Jane Powell movie: A Date With Judy, and was warbled by Beverly Kenney on her 1958 lascivious LP: Beverly Kenney Sings for Playboys, featuring Ellis Larkins on Piano and Joe Benjamin on Bass. “Summer Night,” inked by Harry Warren and Al Dubin for the 1936 movie: Sing Me a Love Song, taken from the scintillacious CD: Super Standard which was waxed in 2004 by the Super Trio, who are Kenny Barron on Piano, Jay Leonhart on Bass and Al Foster on Drums. “Lazy Afternoon” was composed by Jerome Moross and John Treville Latouche for the 1954 musical: The Golden Apple, and was sung and played on Piano by Bob Dorough on his 1966 lackadaisical LP: Just About Everything, with Al Schackman on Electric Guitar, Ben Tucker on Bass and Percy Brice on Drums. “Watermelon Time” was written and performed by Louisiana’s pride, Marcia Ball on her incomparable compact disc: Peace, Love & BBQ, who is featured on vocals and piano. “When the Sun Comes Out,” the 1941 song by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler came from the wonderful 1960 LP: Tony Bennett Sings a String of Harold Arlen, with the orchestra with strings arranged and conducted by Glenn Osser. “A Time for Love,” composed by Johnny Mandel and Paul Francis Webster for the 1966 movie of the Normal Mailer novel: An American Dream, sung by Kurt Elling on his outstanding album: This Time It’s Love, accompanied by Laurence Hobgood on Piano, Brad Wheeler on Soprano Sax, David Onderdonk on Acoustic Guitar, Bob Amster on Bass and Paul Wertico on Percussion & Drums.
