Thrillist did a video on this a while back, and they said 2 hours of time in the freezer. It depends to some degree on how cold your freezer is. But hey - I'd would make "mistakes" a few times in order to have to drink up the mess, and then finally "get it right!" The Thrillist video involves flame to melt the ice shell, and then the whole thing gently comes apart in the glass and mixes with the bottom spirit.
