I've been tardy posting the July events and news, but now is a very good time to do so since we have results of the Spirited Awards at Tales of the Cocktail.

The July event guide features not only a full recap of Tales, but news and previews of Tiki and surf music events all over the country - from Exotica 10 Years After in Chicago, to Tiki Night at The Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, to the Spirit of Tiki Cocktail Festival in London, to some lesser-known events ...

The month closes next weekend with to SoCal events: Another Parking Lot Sale and Art Show at the Tonga Hut in Hollywood, themed to the Kon-Tiki Expedition. And the International Surf Classic in San Jose featuring Slacktone and The Kilaueas ...

But this week, all eyes have been on New Orleans for the 15th annual Tales of the Cocktail. We selected our favorite rum and Tiki events, then added photos and coverage from some of the lucky attendees ...

As usual, Tiki and rum were well-represented in the 11th annual Spirited Awards on July 22, considered to be the Oscars of cocktail awards shows. Among those making the final four in their respective categories were "Smuggler’s Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum and the Cult of Tiki" (Best New Cocktail & Bartending Book), Paul McGee of Lost Lake in Chicago (Best Bar Mentor), Ian Burrell (Best International Brand Ambassador), Trailer Happiness in London (Best International High Volume Cocktail Bar), and Plantation O.F.T.D. (Best New Spirit or Cocktail Ingredient).

And the winner is ...
