Lately, I've been catching up on the many great recipes in "Smuggler's Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki," and the timing couldn't have been better. Congrats to Martin & Rebecca Cate for winning Best New Cocktail & Bartending Book at the Spirited Awards on Saturday night at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans.

I'm toasting with the Hana Reviver ...

I went with Wray & Newphew Overproof for the pot still unaged rum.

This drink also marks a personal milestone ... the 1,000th tropical cocktail that I've reviewed and rated over the past 10 years. FYI, I give it a 3.5 out of 5.

Since around 2007, I've been rating and documenting nearly every Tiki cocktail I make in my home bar as I explored every book from Beachbum Berry, Trader Vic and many more. I've tried to keep a tally, but it's likely an under-estimate. I've documented 342 drink ratings in the Grogalizer (I believe I'm still the No. 1 reviewer) and all the Mai-Kai cocktails on The Atomic Grog.

At some point I hope to publish Hurricane Hayward's Top 500 cocktails, but there are just so many more new recipes to explore. Eagerly awaiting the 10th anniversary edition of Sippin' Safari ...
