Didn't they put a Fez, or some other kind of hat, on monkey's back in the day when there were carnivals? Don't know exactly what they were they called but those guys who played an Accordian and the monkey would dance. Or those toy wind-up monkeys holding cymbals?

And monkeys are not found anywhere in Polynesia so therefore they are not Tiki but people started using them in their imagery because A.) they are cool and B.) because of the tropical/jungle/primitive connection to Tiki. Whether or not Fezzes belong in Tiki culture is a hotly debated topic but if your going to be throwing monkeys into the mix then who cares if they are wearing one?

Well at least that's my thoughts on the matter.
