It's wonderful.

It’s here, and it’s incredible.

My copy of Minimalist Tiki arrived today and it is no doubt the Tiki Book of the Year (and there have been some fine entries already). This thing is massive - it weighs more than the Smuggler’s Cove book! Authors Matt Pietrek and Carrie Smith definitely come to Tiki from a cocktail sensibility (rather than from an art, music, or cultural side). There is detailed info here about cocktail formulas, ingredients, and (surprise to nobody who reads Matt’s Cocktail Wonk blog) a great deal of detail about rum and spirits. Lots of rum brand recommendations and importantly for someone starting out this is current 2019 latest info.

Then there are recipes after recipes after recipes from the authors as well as a murderers row of accomplished bartenders, such as Jason Alexander, Chad Austin, Doc Parks, Marie King, Kevin Beary, and many more!

And, finally, there it is. On page 175! The recipe for my “white whale” of a cocktail - the Disco Banana. Thank you to Jeannie Grant for publishing this. Now I just need to get a few more ingredients and see if I can make these at home as good as they are from Zombie Village. Want the recipe? Buy the book!

This book will take a lot of time to read. Such an inspiration to see all the wonderful cocktails.
