Happy Repeal Day! I started this thread two years ago today, so it's a good milestone to post another formula. I've been slowly accumulating different types of bitters. After discovering Craig's/Colonel Tiki's/Melintur's recipe for a adult Disneyland Mint Julep, I had a bottle of mint bitters that I didn't know what else to do with. Thief River Falls 1-1/2 oz light rum Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
This is a variation on/simplification of a Missionary's Downfall--a drink I love, but I am super lazy and so blending mint and pineapple chunks is a lot of work. UPDATE 2025.07.19: I originally named this drink "Rouchouze Lost at Sea" after a 19th century missionary bishop whose ship disappeared in the South Atlantic after having left Hawaii. But I don't parlez-vous français, so I really don't know how to pronounce the good bishop's name. So when I saw the excellent documentary "The Donn of Tiki" last week and learned that Sunny Sund was born near Thief River Falls, Minnesota, everything about the town's name, Sunny's relationship with Donn Beach, taking over the bar/restaurant, the Missionary's Downfall and this drink, clicked.
