Thanks H-10 and hil, I love where I live and it is the beauty of Oregon that brought me here from the San Fernando Valley in 1976.
An example is this view of Mt. Hood and the Sandy River a few miles from my home and on the way to recycle glass at the Sandy Transfer Station.

But enough of the travel log, I finished this mahogany piece. First a clear coat of varnish, then a medium brown with red into the deep recesses followed by a dark walnut and another clear coat.

A found, home-made paddle that I thought needed a good carving. I would guess it was ash as it was very light colored and hard, but I stained it with an amber, mahogany, and dark walnut and added red and straw colored accents.

I cut a six foot tall cedar log in half because my 66 year old body could not move the whole thing.

It will have a cannibal theme which is always fun.
