I'm not a collector so I'm not familiar with this mug but in the 60s it was common to buy plaster mold for slipcasting pottery. A huge variety of molds were available including Tiki mugs. I suspect that Francis Schmidt was a hobbyist who had cast this mug, probably for his personal use. Duncan was a big name in ready to use molds but there were others.
