A possibly related, but unconfirmed tidbit... When I was up north I stopped at a place in Pacifica (just south of S.F.) called the Surf Lounge that I heard served tropical drinks. A very divey, not particularly Tiki kind of place (although I did see two little tikis on the walls). I asked about their tropical drink menu and was told the bar had been purchased by the owners of Trad'r Sam's.
