This from Dave Krys, via Otto's Tiki News List:
"As designer of the Rock-a-tiki lounge in chicago, I am sad to
announce it's ultimate closing over a year and a half since it first
opened. according to my sources the bar has been officially sold and
slated to become - what else - but a wine bar. those of us in
chi-town saw this coming a mile away- poor management, lack of
promotion and an owner that lacked the passion to invest in the
place ultimately doomed it. i would like to thank all of those that
supported the place in it's heyday. Those fortunate enough to visit
during the exotica 2003 i also thank. We had some great times!! The
closing has gone unceremoniously unannounced. As for the decor, I am
trying to arrange an auction/garage sale with the owner to auction
off all tiki decor/bamboo and artifacts. I have already secured a
few things for my own collection, but there is plenty more, including
items from mai tiki and oceanic arts as well as my own custom
fixtures that adorned the place. I will keep the tikiphiles informed
via tiki news as to when and if that will take place. Those of you
that have any rock-a-tiki memorabilia (t-shirts, postcards, matches,
etc.) - the ebay value of those items just doubled!
On another note, on my yearly visit to the transworld halloween
trade show this year i noticed even more tiki stuff available for
sale. new mugs and ceramic items to carvings and giant 6ft tall
tikis with light up eyes from all new vendors. more tiki stuff out
now than in the past four years at this show!!"

It was great while it lasted, thanks Dave!
