Have you ever dreamed of experiencing Day of the Dead in Mexico City?

Well now's your opportunity to do so... with a tiki twist!

This Día de Muertos (November 1 and 2), Mexotika is putting on an event that promises to blend Mexican tradition with a good dose of vintage tropical horror: LA ISLA DE LOS MUERTOS!

Saturday's shenanigans take place at the Centro Histórico location of Bar Pata Negra (5 de mayo #49, located just off the Zócalo - the main square of Mexico City where the Day of the Dead shrines are and the daytime parade will end). There'll be 3 bands: Los Apaches (Link Wray/Dick Dale/Sonics-inspired LA rockers), The Centellas (all-girl Mexico City surf trio) and Los Chanekes (a Mexican garage rockin' jungle exotica supergroup put together specially for this show). DJs Tropicana Joe, Anacleto Stellar, Denepa Panky and Matt Watson will be spinning exotica, surf, mambo, and Mexican go-go sounds on 45rpm, and there'll also be a Polynesian dance show led by María Elena Otahi, ex-dancer and choreographer of Mexico City's legendary Mauna Loa tiki restaurant. Plus, of course, a costume contest!

On Sunday afternoon, there's an expedition to the Aztec-era canals of Xochimilco in the south of the city, starting with a "jungle cruise" on traditional "trajinera" boats and ending up at a secret island party, where top bartenders from Mexico and beyond will be presenting themed tropical cocktails accompanied by spooky legends (4 cocktails included in the price of the ticket!)

The weekend then ends up at the award-winning Alofah Tiki Bar in the heart of Mexico City's Roma Norte district, where there'll be some very special guests behind the bar and on the decks, and some more surprises!
