Get ready for confusion when you visit this purported 'tiki' bar. Is it a pirate hangout? A beach bar? A tiki bar? Its identity is confusing. The area around the bar is a wide open floor intended to hold the many customers patronizing the handful of bars in this redeveloped neighborhood. Although we visited on a Saturday afternoon just after opening, we assume that the floor is packed with partygoers at night.
Decor is well done with a lot of quality bamboo and tapa cloth finishes, especially in the multiple tiki hut seating areas, as well as theming carried into the restrooms and an impressive foyer. The spacious front wall shows a rotating projection of the ocean and an animated feature about their origin story with a Christmas storyline, but the music ambience was a strange blend that included hip-hop and didn't create a tiki atmosphere.
The drink menu features your regular favorites as well as many house twists on tiki drinks. There is also food available, but parking is scarce - be sure to get validated if you manage to find a spot in the area directly surrounding the bar.
I'm rating this a 7.5 - the bar has tiki theming and tiki drinks, but the clientele they're chasing isn't the tiki client. |
