I was floored when I heard the news. Danny was one of the coolest cats out there, real as they come. I had long admired his work before I met him and I don't even remember how I actually met him, but it felt like we'd known each other for years. I remember going to the Mission Tiki Drive-In theater and seeing his beautiful work and saying, "Hey! I know that guy!". He made everything look beautiful. Such talent! I loved doing his Shipwrecked show in Marina Del Rey, it was, and is still, one of my favorite tiki marts to vend at. I loved seeing him and getting a great big hug. Danny was fun and funny and serious and extraordinarily talented. He was kind, but he took no shit and he stood tall. he was deeply respected in the tiki community and beyond. I loved to talk old Santa Barbara stories with him and we shared a love of Cumbia music. He was a giant of a man and a complete original. We all miss him so much.
