Swanky's Special Blends shed new light on the historic cocktails of Don the Beachcomber, as revealed in Tim "Swanky" Glazner's biography of Tiki's founding father. We put #2 and #4 through the paces back in April during the sneak preview release, but now we're armed with the entire three-flavor gift box and the ability to make the remaining classics in "Searching for Don the Beachcomber."
First up: The iconic Three Dots and a Dash, created to salute Donn Beach's fellow heroes of World War II and a modern classic that we've been making all wrong all these years. The original version featuring both #4 and #7 also contains a healthy dose of allspice liqueur, giving it that signature flavor profile. With no agricole rhum in the mix (that style wasn't available in the 1940s), it's less boozy and more nuanced thanks to the syrups. With 10 ingredients (same as the Zombie) and tons of complex spicy notes, the Three Dots comes off like a more accessible version of that potent classic. Get the book at donn-beach.com and the syrups at bgreynolds.com (available soon), then mix up some drinks from the golden era while enjoying The Donn of Tiki documentary, just released to all streaming services.
